BIO

 

Mariana Preda (born in 1994) is a Romanian panflute player, singer, actress and director based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. To this day she released two albums, 'Luna’ and 'Sunrise', with the label MAP from Milan, Italy. Mariana won numerous music awards, among which are also the Maria Tanase, the Mamaia Music Festival award and the first place at the Panflute Competition in the Netherlands.

 

Mariana started singing at the age of six and continued music education throughout her childhood studying the panflute and enrolling at the Balasa Doamna High School in Targoviste, Romania.

 

Her education was enriched by renowned panflutists such as Gheorghe Zamfir, Damian Draghici and Radu Nechifor, who coached Mariana towards her path of a professional musician. She is currently finishing her bachelor in 'Classical Panflute' at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

 

Besides her music accomplishments, Mariana is also an award-winning actress and director.

She was casted by Italian director Nikolas Grasso at the age of 16 for the movie “Doina, which won her two best actress awards, one at the Monaco International Film Festival and the other at the Festival du Cinema de Paris. In 2014 she directed her first short film called ‘Life’, which was premiered in Seattle at NFFTY (National Film Festival for Talented Youth), the largest world film festival for young directors and was awarded with the “Independent Spirit Award”at the European Premiere during the Monaco International Film Festival held in Montecarlo.

In 2015 she directed a short film in Bucharest sponsored by Expedia USA.

 

Mariana appeared numerous times at TV shows, such as Nasul, where she was a guest together with Gheorghe Zamfir. She also appeared at Confesiuni on TVR2 together with actress Maria Dinulescu. 

 

On Monday 23rd March 2015 she performed at the National Theatre of Bucharest along with the greatest Romanian actors and performers.

 

During summer 2015 Mariana performed twice at EXPO in Milan.

 

In August 2015 Mariana had a concert at 'Untold', one of the biggest Music Festival in Europe. At the same event played artists such as David Guetta, John Newman and Avicii.

 

In September 2015 Mariana was invited to perform in Jacksonville (Florida) for the St. Anne Day at the St. Anne Orthodox Church.

 

In November 2015 Mariana has been chosen by dutch composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven as the Romanian Ambassador for the Amsterdam Light Festival.

 

In December 2015 Mariana has given a charity concert at the Amrath Grand Hotel in Amsterdam for Rotary International.

 

Mariana has released 'Panflute Carols', an album made especially for Christmas. It is a mixture of traditional carols and Christmas chorals for four voices on one panflute.

 

Mariana has also directed her new short film named 'Etude'.

 

On 7th January 2016 at the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, 

Mariana has been given a special prize for being one of the best Romanian students abroad in the field of the arts, a recognition that also rewards her activity of promoting the panflute all over the world.

 

She had a concert for Celebrating the International Day of Francophonie in Brussels at the Romanian Cultural Institute on 18th March 2016.

On 1st April Mariana has performed at St. Martin in The Fields (London) together with organist Donald MacKenzie.

 

On 15th May she performed at the 'Romania Day on Broadway' in New York. The occasion drew together the almost 200,000 Romanian-Americans living in New York City. The Romanian community is one of only seven immigrant communities in New York that has Broadway closed for an ethnic festival.

On 28th May Mariana opened the concert of romanian artist Tudor Gheorghe at the DomKerk in Utrecht.

On 5th June Mariana performed at the Romanian Festival of the Flanders in Belgium.

On 6th July she had a concert in Havana, Cuba organized by the Romanian Embassy.

 

On 7h August Mariana performed at Untold Festival in Cluj for the second time. The Festival has been awarded last year as 'Best Festival in Europe'.

On 2nd December she had a concert at the Chicago Cultural Center for the Romanian National Day organized by the Romanian Consulate.

On 18th December she organized and performed at a Charity Concert at Vondelkerk in Amsterdam.

In 2017 she started a collaboration with Italian Deejay and Music Producer G Romano.
